Good Things

Good Things from Good Mail

As a leader on the Good Mail brand team, a brand focused on “humankindness,” I want to make sure we are living the brand pillars and bringing the company along with us as we grow. I created our weekly newsletter focused on gratitude, self-care, humor and positivity, to help our team stay engaged and actively seeking inspiration beyond our walls. Our newsletter goes out every Monday morning to the whole company to help us all start the week with a little something good. We have received amazing feedback and have an ever-growing list of submissions and ideas to share from all parts of the company.

Here are a few examples:

#1 / When we grow up, we want to be Donte Colley. His “motivational dancing,” if that’s a thing, is magical and positive and mesmerizing. We are 200% here for it.

Enjoy!

#4 / We thought your Monday could use a little more color! Artist Calen Schaub combines color, motion, and paint to create one of kind art experiences. His process IS the art and it’s uh-mazing…kinda like Crayola’s cooler, older brother. How bad do you want one of his bike canvas spinners!?!?

#7 /  This woman. And this dog. So many heart emojis. Malinda Herman is self-proclaimed “Grandma Hipster Wonder Woman” and she’s single handedly giving us a reason to love social media again. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than this.

#8 / It’s a new month! And a new season! It’s the perfect time for some self-care reminders. Thanks for the great list, @theeverygirl we can’t wait to get started on it.

#10 / We wish Brené Brown was our BFF so we could text her a million times a day for advice. If you haven’t seen her Netflix special about vulnerability or read one of her books, this video explaining the difference between empathy and sympathy is the perfect place to start. Empathy is our job, and this is a fantastic reminder about what it means to truly connect and support.

#12 / There aren’t many posts that truly stand out in the sea of food pics, cute dogs, and selfies but the @ __nitch account’s do. The gorgeous portraits paired with quotes that are a peek into each person’s humanity are simply perfect. We tried to find out who is behind the account, but even Google doesn’t know. The mystery just makes it even cooler.

#15 / OMG, how is it December already?!? Well, anyway, let’s just watch the magical artist, Helga Stenzel, become a human snowflake and pretend like we have more than 3 weekends before Christmas!! You should spend a minute looking at her other art too, she’s delightful.

#17 / Anyone else obsessed with personality tests? We can’t get enough of them, especially when they are paired with great color palettes like this one from @twentysevenlkld Do you know your number? There are tons of tests out there, but we love this one.

#18 / If you’re like us, you need something to break up the endless stream of true crime podcasts every once in a while. Scattered, a podcast from comedian Chris Garcia, is definitely one to add to your queue.

Here’s the gist:

Chris Garcia’s dad had one dying wish: That his family scatter his ashes off the coast of Cuba -- the country he was born in, and the country that would break him. Chris Garcia’s mom? She doesn’t give a crap about dying wishes. She’s vowed to never go back to Cuba again.

So for now, the ashes are sitting on a shelf in Chris’s closet, between a Paul McCartney record and a Gizmo halloween mask. As Chris tries to do right by his dad, he sets out to uncover the truth about a man he barely knew, who survived Castro’s labor camps only to lose his way all over again in search of the American dream.

You will laugh, and cry, and want to give your mom a hug.

(Note, there are some tough situations talked about, but there is a warning before those episodes so you can opt out.)

#21 / 2020 is off to a tough start, so we wanted to acknowledge the emotional elephant in the room and offer a few minutes of joy. We’re all in this together and if you need a friend to hold the speaker for you while you find your groove, we’re here for it. “Everything’s gonna be alright,” you guys.

#22 / Fun Fact: Barnes and Noble claims that Charles Bukowski poetry books are the most frequently stolen. Another Fun Fact: It doesn’t get much cooler than Tom Waits reading Bukowski’s amazing poem, The Laughing Heart. Yet another Fun Fact: You are marvelous…

#29 / We’re Jumping into Monday like…

Aolanow 1.png

Alessandra Olanow is a fantastic artist that you should all be following. We love the quiet brilliance you can see in her Instagram feed. It’s amazing how much emotion she can capture with so few lines.

And check out her illustrated montages! SO good!

#31 / Now that we are all doing our parts staying home, we might as well put all those family members and closets full of supplies to work recreating our favorite movies! Check out @Studio_188_ for some incredible inspiration, we especially love the Star Wars, Harry Potter and Titanic re-imaginings!

While you’re at it, you should probably rent, Be Kind Please Rewind too. It’s amazing how creative you can be when you have to use what you have.
